Lorne

One of the most attractive coastal resorts, Lorne, 137km south-west of Melbourne, is located on the Great Ocean Road with the Otway Ranges as a backdrop. Despite the popularity of the town as a tourist destination, it has retained its charm and has many fine old building.

Main attractions: Swimming and surfing are the most popular activities here, as well as bush walking in the Otway Ranges. Teddys lookout, at the end of George St, offers panoramic views of the bay. There is a shipwreck walk along the beach for people interested in history and exercise. Fresh fish, caught by the local fleet can be bought from Lorne Fisheries on the pier. For those more interested in the creative arts, visit Qdos Ars in Allenvale Rd.

Nearby attractions: Angahook-Lorne State Park, west of the town, is a popular inland destination. There are many walking tracks and the park offers rivers, waterfalls, rapids, cliffs and an abundance of native flora. Erskine Falls is only 10km from Lorne by road. Scenic drives worthwhile taking include those to the Otway Ranges and along the Great Ocean Road.
