Warrnambool
Warrnambool was an important port until the 1920's, when silting virtually ended commercial shipping. The city's early prosperity is reflected in the sandstone building of Liebig, Timor and Fairy streets. Today, Warrnambool is a coastal resort and Victoria's fifth largest city. It is at the western end of the Great Ocean Road.
Main attractions: A major attraction in Warrnambool is Flagstaff hill Maritime Village, an authentic replica of a typical 19th Century seaport. The village includes a group of lighthouse buildings, built in 1853 and still in use; and an old fort and cannons, built in 1887, to fend off a perceived threat of invasion by Russia.
